Summer Organizing Plan: What to throw and what to store

Summer's Hour - Suddenly, the house feels full. Winter blankets are still in closets, expired condiments in the refrigerator, no room for beach towels or fans? That's your sign: It's timeSmart, seasonal sorting.

existPinshop, We help families like you make the most of the small space. It’s not about becoming a minimalist, it’s about making room for what’s important now.

Step 1: Determine the area that actually becomes messy

Start with the first 4 "Chaos Traps" of the summer:

1.Season of error in closet overload

  • Remove the wool sweater, boots and wool coat

  • Check each pocket and zipper before storing (remaining tissue or receipt = mildew risk)

  • Fold and pack with breathable fabric bags or stackable bins

2.Kitchen cabinets filled with forgotten supplies

  • Tossing outdated snacks, repeating seasoning jars or leaking sauce packs

  • Category with marked bins: Seasonings/cereals/summer snacks

  • Maintain daily items (such as picnic utensils or ice drink containers)

3.Growing bathroom chaos

  • Trouble the half-used bottle you haven't touched for more than three months

  • Check the expiration date of sunscreen and medications

  • Use vertical caddy or over-check rack to separate summer use with year-round items

4.Laundry area chaos

  • Remove damaged clothes hangers, old detergent boxes and single socks

  • Hang mops and brushes instead of tilting them around the corner

  • Basket with tags: white / color / exquisite / clean

Step 2: Abandon something without regretting it

Ask yourself three quick questions for each project:

  • Have I used it in the past three months?

  • If lost, will I replace it immediately?

  • Is it broken, expired or repeated?

Example of tossing:

  • Expired medication, makeup or food

  • Clothes that are not suitable or not worn in two seasons

  • Broken kitchen tools or mysterious power cord

Reality check: The messy inner gui. If you just keep something because "it's expensive" but you'll never use it, you can adjust it. Make it useful elsewhere.

Step 3: What to store (but this time smarter)

Some things should be kept, butbarrier:

  • Winter blankets, gloves, space heaters → vacuum sealed bags

  • Seasonal plates, holiday tablecloths → stackable plastic trash bins

  • Off-season clothing → Use vertical hanging drawers with insufficient storage or bed

Pinshop Tips: Mark everything. Future - You will thank you for your gift.

Step 4: Add the system to make the mess stay

Organization is 50% sorted, 50%Set up the system. Here is how to lock the result:

  • KeepA donation boxIn fixed position - when it fills, put it down

  • useModular boxCan be re-stacked or moved in season

  • placeRolling carIn the kitchen, bathroom or laundry area to make essentials move and visible

  • Hang oneSimple listFor seasonal turnover (what to store in July, unpack in October)
