Rug Care Guide
With a little care and attention, your rug can maintain its brand-new look for years to come. Keep this guide handy for future reference.
New Rug Scent
The scent of a new rug is completely normal. It results from being tightly rolled during shipping to ensure quick delivery. To eliminate the smell:
- Place your rug in a well-ventilated area for 72 hours.
- The scent will naturally fade over time.
Reverse Rolling or Folding
If your rug arrives rolled:
- Fold the corners underneath the rug and let it rest for 1–2 days.
- Vacuum the rug. You can also steam the rug after vacuuming.
- Place furniture on the rug and walk over it to help flatten it.
If your rug arrives folded:
- Fold the rug in the opposite direction of how it is currently folded.
- Vacuum the rug. You can also steam the rug after vacuuming.
- Place furniture on the rug and walk over it to help flatten it.
Fraying and Shedding
Shedding of loose fibers is normal and will reduce over time. Most shedding occurs within the first 3–6 months. To care for your rug:
- Vacuum regularly on a low power setting.
- Use a vacuum cleaner without a beater brush to avoid damaging the pile.
Tip:
Always vacuum in the same direction as the sewn binding to prevent damage.
By following these easy care tips, your rug will stay fresh and beautiful for years to come!
